Vienna hosts three major Christmas markets: the vast Rathausplatz, the baroque Schönbrunn, and the cultural Belvedere — all framed by imperial architecture.
Famous for
Imperial grandeur — the Rathaus market, Schönbrunn, and Belvedere, set against Habsburg architecture.
Vienna is the Danube's Christmas crown jewel. The Rathausplatz market, set before the neo-Gothic city hall, is the largest and most photographed, with a 30-meter tree and an ice-skating rink threading through the park. Schönbrunn's market, in the palace courtyard, is more refined — artisanal crafts and organic Glühwein. Belvedere's market, before the baroque palace, is the most intimate. Most Danube sailings overnight here, giving you time for all three.
Dates: Mid-Nov – Dec 26
Vibe: Imperial and elegant — three grand markets, each with its own personality.
Local tip
The Rathaus market is most magical after 5pm when the lights come on — but go early to beat the weekend crowds.
